Q: I want to know how to create an ebook, please give me a step-by-step guide?

A: I am an e-book junkie and I will start this article with my honest confession.

Confessions of an E-book Junkie
Okay, I’ll admit it. I’m passionate about e-books, they are the ultimate product to sell online. Why? They solved the problem of looking for huge capital when I wanted to start my online business. Prior to the advent of e-books, anybody who wanted to self-publish a book will have to look for a huge sum of money to cover the printing costs and even if you have the money, you had to wait months and sometimes, years, for your book to be published. This waiting period, suffice to say, was usually excruciating and even frustrated many people out of the publishing market.  Now, with simple software, you could have your own money-making e-book within minutes. In fact, if you are involved in online business and you have not started publishing e-books, I can say you are leaving a lot of money on the table.

Why You Must Publish Ebooks
*Market is unlimited
*A large worldwide market base
*Easy to create
*Most easy to research
*Absolutely cheap and embarrassingly easy to test
*Easy to produce, archive and update
*Low cost start-up
*Extremely high perceived market value
*Astronomical profits
*Management ease (can operate from your email with a telephone support)
*Gives you fame and prestige
*Life-time legacy (your stuff keeps being available even long after you are gone)

Now, what are electronic books? They are a newer version of books that can read electronically. The most popular format for ebooks are pdf (portable document format)or exe (executables).Publishing time is only a few minutes using many of the software programs available out there. The only time involved is the time it takes to create the product. If left in its electronic format, there is a zero dollar fulfillment cost for the book and it can be easily downloaded off the web by any of your customers. Now that you know the profit potential of selling e-books, here are some steps to writing your own fast selling ebook.

7 Steps to Writing Your Own Fast Selling E-book

1) It All Starts With an Idea.

That’s right. All money-making e-books start with an idea. This is a part I cannot effectively describe in words. It has to do with personal reflection. A personal brainstorming, which can be as a result of a newspaper headline, a speech, an article, a personal need, an experience, a problem that needs to be solved, a tragedy, a dream, a vision. Getting the idea is one whole big sea of operation that one can never really cover BUT it still remains the beginning of the whole process.

2) Sniff To See If It Sells.

Your objective is to write a fast selling e-book, not just any e-book, so, you have to first test to find out if it will sell before you put the whole of your energy into writing. The frustration of first putting all your energy into creating a product no one is interested in is enough to kill even a monk! So, be wise. Now, how do you sniff the market? It is a simple exercise, which involves you asking around or observing to see if people really want what you are about to write.   One simple way to get this done is to see what people are talking about. In the year 2003,I noticed people talking about wanting to start a business but not having much money. I set out to researching low cost ways of starting a business, the result is my ‘Start Your Dream Biz Tool Kit’ which has received widespread acceptance. As you go about your day, read the day’s news, listen to the radio, watch television, attend church service, keep sniffing and you can never miss a best-selling e-book idea.

3)Create A Knock-Out Title.

I have seen great e-books messed up by poor titles. I have also seen low quality e-books sell so much for such a high price simply because of the title. Always come up with a good title for your e-book. Books that start with ‘How to…always sell like crazy. Another simple way to create good titles is to make your title promise a real benefit the book can deliver…e.g. ‘10 Steps to Killer Web Copy’, ‘Google Cash’, ‘ Secrets of Info Millionaires Revealed!’ Here are 20 words you can work into your titles for life. If you look around, you’ll find these words occurring in the titles of fast-selling e-books all over the world. The words are: ‘How to…, quick, absolute, unbreakable, reliable, amazing, secret, million, wealth, instant, sure-fire, explosive, income, strategies, best, profits, sell, seven(in figure), money, speed, free, killer, greatest, exposed, rich, start, extraordinary, success, idea, etc

4)Break Down The Whole Idea Into Blocks.

Just like the sub-headline says, you’ve got to pick up your e-book idea and break it into parts. Each part should deal with a portion of the idea. Doing this eliminates writers’ block. It helps you keep focus and ensures that you complete the book. It also helps you to have an e-book, which is easy to read because each major part will come under titles, headlines and sub-headlines.

5)Write Each Block At A Time And Link It All Together.

Nobody wants to write a book that the reader will be left more confused after reading than before he got started. So, write each block carefully. Research and see the best way to deliver each block, then link all the individual blocks together to create a flow to sustain the reader’s interest. Follow a logical sequence and where possible, make references to previous parts of the book to ensure that the reader still keeps up. Most people forget the beginning of a book by the time they get to the middle! Help these people.

6) Edit and Proofread Your Book.

The reason most e-books don’t do well in the market is because they contain too many typos and errors. Please read and re-read your e-book to avoid this and if you don’t believe in your ability to do this perfectly, please hire a proofreader to do it for you.

7) Convert Your Book Into an Ebook

All you need to do this is a free software called Open Office. You can download it at http://openoffice.org. After downloading it, please install it on your system just like you install any normal computer program. It has an interface that resembles Microsoft Word. Copy your book contents in there. You can even insert images if you feel like it. Aftter all these, you will now convert your book into an ebook using the ‘Export to Pdf’ function. Your e-book is now ready to be sold.
